Another few weeks and then the first AC foil goes back in the Venlo greenhouse. Where before energy saving was the biggest advantage of a foil, Vari OP foil by Oerlemans Plastics adds a homogeneous greenhouse climate and a more uniform plant growth.
Vari OP is a diffuse, anti-fog foil with a perforation pattern that is tailored to a specific greenhouse. In the middle of the greenhouse, the foil is more perforated than on the edges. "This reduces chill and creates a homogeneous greenhouse climate," says Henri van Hemert of Oerlemans Plastics. "This results in a more even growth."
"It's a relatively simple idea in hindsight," confirms Van Hemert, "But until a few years ago no one could fabricate this. The correct pattern is determined by the grower. In practice, you see that it works."
The diffuse AC foils are produced on the company in Genderen. "In older nurseries, the effect on energy bills is even bigger. Modern greenhouses are well insulated, older ones not so much. That means our foil really adds value and helps out, both in terms of cultivation and energy reduction.”
