Spain: Alpita F1 sets new colour, quality and freshness for winter standards

The deep knowledge of the market chain and the ongoing collaboration with specialized farmers have made it possible for Nunhems to lead a global revolution in the Spanish cucumber market for the second time. Twenty years ago, Nunhems became the reference to follow with the launch of the first parthenocarpic varieties (without pollination by bees), which marked a historic change in both fruit quality and in production yields.

Nunhems' Alpita F1 is defining, in the campaign that is currently starting, the new standards for quality, colour and freshness as well as managing to perfectly combine the interests of producers and marketers. From the business perspective, Alpita F1 is a safe bet because it offers a superb appearance that promotes consumer-purchasing decision. The new variety stands out, especially because of its dark green colour, uniform throughout the fruit and with no degradation in the ends. Its skin is bright, crisp and very thorny; with a traditional Spanish cucumber look that makes this variety especially attractive, both in its first sale and marketing at its final destination. Additionally it has a long shell life and an excellent postharvest behaviour, the fruit doesn't deform or lose its freshness. It is certainly the best option to reach more distant destinations.

Ideal for Winter
Alpita F1 is ideal for winter and the planting cycle between October and January. Its very vigorous and dark plant offers farmers advantage of being able to flexibly choose when to start harvesting it because it stays healthy until the end. This means it is possible to extend the collection waiting for prices to improve.

With uniform fruits, without internal holes and a length between 12 and 16 centimetres, Alpita F1 is also remarkable for its high productivity in winter. Its very resistant to changes in temperature and humidity and its fruits are very resistant to cracking. Furthermore, Alpita F1 is resistant to powdery mildew and yellow vein virus (CVYV).

Q.verde, dark green quintessential
The launch of Alpita F1 means a new stage in the work developed by Nunhems for the Spanish cucumber sector. Q.verde is the quality product line that Alpita F1 starts this campaign and that will identify the new Spanish cucumber varieties that will offer, as a common denominator, more colour, freshness and productivity. Q.verde wont become a commercial trademark, nor will be identifiable by the consumer, it was created mainly in order to facilitate farmers with their choices and help them recognize the varieties that meet the new standards.
