Technokas to build first one for Ter Laak Orchids:

Daylight Greenhouse: double glass, no screens needed

The existing location of Ter Laak orchids in the Netherlands is already equipped with installations and techniques to achieve optimal energy consumption. The Daylight Greenhouse concept goes even further. The Daylight greenhouse is fully fitted with double glazing. No energy screen is needed, while the energy reduction is actually higher. The greenhouse has a light installation, which consists of lenses (in the double glazing) and movable collectors. The system operates as a screen installation: all the direct sunlight is focused by the lenses on a line and picked up by the movable collectors. With excess light, the direct light is captured and diffused light remains. A screen installation cannot work faster.

Hence this greenhouse has no need for an outside screen installation. The concentrated sunlight heats the collectors and gathers energy from the greenhouse. That energy is stored in the existing installations (sources, heat pump, buffer systems) and reused. The result is a greenhouse that uses little or no energy and creates an optimal greenhouse climate by constantly bringing light to the plant.
