Given the extraordinary success of the previous year, Southern Seed decided to present Gloria F1 and Bella Vittoria F1 purple aubergines as well as Venere Nera F1 black round and Wanda F1 black long aubergines in the amazing Biscione square in the Petrosino municipality.
More than three thousand people tasted Southern Seed aubergines produced by commercial farms in the Trapani area and cooked by local ladies, who emphasised their characteristics in typical local dishes.
Company managers told FreshPlaza that "the enthusiasm and the approval of the people confirmed the excellent qualities of our aubergines, which are different than other varieties. Whoever walked past the Southern Seed stand recognised the logo and complimented us, either talking about their experience or by sharing their willingness of transplanting our aubergines again, especially Gloria F1 which, thanks to its shine, is unique for both growers and the market."
Here are some of the main characteristics of Southern Seed aubergines.
Gloria F1 is a medium vigorous plant which is highly productive. It can be cultivated any time as it tolerates rigid winter temperatures well. The fruit is deep purple, round and with few spines on the calyx. The average weight is of 650-750 grams and it is 15-17 centimetres long.
Bella Vittoria F1 is a vigorous plant with excellent blossoming. It is ideal for early transplants (June and July) and, thanks to its good setting and regular fruits, yields are excellent also on the top part of the plant. The fruit is round-oval, weighing between 750-850 grams and 13-16 centimetres long.
Venere Nera F1 is an early variety with oval black fruits with white flesh and very few seeds. They weigh around 500-600 grams on average and the calyx is spineless, so they are easier to cultivate and process.
Last but not least, Wanda F1. Vigorous plant with long cylindrical fruits, with a deep black colour throughout the cultivation cycle. The consistency of the fruits, which are full and heavy, is better than average as well as their shelf-life and resistance to handling and transportation, which are essential characteristics for the saleability of the product.
A special thanks goes to Mr. Giuseppe Tumbarello, Southern Seed agent for the Trapani and Palermo provinces, for the event and for his commitment to the promotion of the company varieties all over the territory.
We would also like to thank Iuvenes for its availability and welcome. Southern Seed would also like to invite all readers and operators to visit www.southernseed.it and to take part to the various events organised by the company. "We look forward to seeing you all!".
