Spain: Drones used agricultural tools in Almeria
In a project initiated by professors Fernando Carvajal and Francisco Agüero, drones might be deployed for agriculture in the near future. The aerial drones give real-time information about the humidity, the development and of the health of the crops, so that action can be taken at the right time, such as the dispensation of fertilizers and irrigation.
In June, the potential use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), better known as drones, was made known to the agricultural sector. The Universidad de Almería (UAL) announced the commencement of a project to introduce the drones to the industry.
Both professors are part of the research team "Tecnología Agraria de la Producción and Zonas Semiáridas" and want to use the drones for photogrammetry (aerial photography with special measuring cameras). The investment group AGR-199 "Tecnología Agraria de la Producción and Zonas Semiáridas" of the University of Almeria, is set to apply the technology in various agricultural ventures.
