"Remarkably high demand for Belgium courgettes"

The volume of Belgian courgettes this season is similar to last year. "The production is grinding to a halt right about now.” According to Benny Cuypers of Lava, July and August are traditionally difficult months for courgettes. "This is the peak in regard to vacations and courgettes harvested from small gardens. In recent weeks there has been remarkably high demand from the Netherlands. The price is currently around 13 to 16 cents each."

Eggplant
For aubergines, the volume increased compared to last year. This is due to an increase in acreage of about 10%. The pricing of these products remains erratic, but is generally better than the 2012 season. From mid-June to early August, the eggplants experienced a difficult period. Fortunately, prices rose in August and are now around 1.25 to 1.35 per kilo, because of dwindling supplies. Benny is positive about the coming weeks." The market is expected to remain fine as long as the production from Spain doesn’t pick up."
