"Netherlands: "Agricultural export in 2012 at record high”"

Despite the enduring economic crisis, the value of Dutch export of agricultural products is still increasing. Last year another record was set with a total of 77.9 billion Euro. Germany is by far the most important customer of the Dutch agricultural sector. According to preliminary numbers, of the total export, 20.5 billion Euro goes to Germany, which is more than a quarter of the agro-exports (26.3%).

The Netherlands, along with the United States and France, is among the largest agro-exporters in the world. “The greenhouse vegetables from the Westland region are largely responsible for this number. Products from Brazil for example, enter the country via Rotterdam and are distributed across the rest of Europe,'' said economist Peter Hein van Mulligen to the Daily Telegraph. The Netherlands imported for about € 54 billion in agricultural products last year, bringing net exports to (approximately) EUR 24 billion.
