Germany: Average German consumes 95.4 kg of vegetables a year

Germans consumed more vegetables last year than ever before. The German Statistics Agency stated that the average German eats 95.4 kg of vegetables (fresh and processed) a year.

Tomatoes, with 25.2 kg per capita, were consumed most, followed by onions with 8.5 kg and carrots and beets with 8 kg. When Germans ate fresh import, 92% of these goods came from within the EU. Only 8% was imported from countries outside Europe.

Holland was the chief supplier with circa 1.13 million tons of vegetables. Spanish growers shipped 921,000 tons to Germany, followed by Italy (274,000 ton) and France (154,000 ton).
