Idroterm Serre offers specific kits

Greenhouse cultivation combined with energy production is possible

Idroterm Serre offers turnkey solutions from design to final execution, including plant engineering, with the aim of protecting crops, increasing productivity, and increasingly combining energy production through new designs or by installing panels on existing greenhouses.

"Over the past few months, we have received an increasing number of requests for new photovoltaic greenhouses or for revamping, i.e. the repositioning of panels on already existing greenhouses," explains Andrea Mariani, contact person of Idroterm Serre Srl.

"For several years, we have been developing specific kits for the installation of fully integrated photovoltaic panels on the roofs of existing greenhouses. The kits make it possible to install both frameless and framed panels of various thicknesses."
On the roof, the panels are alternated with glass and ventilation openings, with either a classic southern exposure (typical for blind panels used to protect areas of delicate product from the sun) or an east-west exposure (especially for transparent panels with spaced cells, obtaining diffuse shading on crops).

A particular example of a photovoltaic greenhouse installation is the roof of the forecourt or processing area, with the system sized to serve machinery and plant utilities (such as pumps, motors, fans).

The Venlo photovoltaic greenhouse has a CE-marked load-bearing structure made of hot-dip galvanised steel, a so-called multi-shed roof with aluminium gutters of the company's exclusive design, and an aluminium frame specifically designed to house photovoltaic panels, glass or polycarbonate cladding panels and openable side walls.

"In connection with the growing focus on renewables, biomass power plants are also installed to serve protected crops. Plus we also produce greenhouses with Polyair plastic film covering. Idroterm, which deals with the design and construction of facilities for above-ground cultivation, has been collaborating for years on the creation of an innovative closed-cycle plant for free-root cultivation," concludes Mariani.
