Students are out of school for spring break, but a few at Rio Grande High School are spending their week getting their hands a little dirty, preparing for the school's agriculture and nutrition program. Students participating in the program are taking the week to clean up the school's greenhouse, prepping for the upcoming summer season.
Students got the opportunity to gain experience in gardening and maintenance, and learn useful skills for farming. The program partners with local farms to give students advice and provide a hands-on experience in the industry. "It's been one of my favorite things, it's definitely opened my eyes to see, like, what I wanna do in the future. It's really opened my eyes in like, how the world is treated and how the environment is so affected with all the stuff that's happening in the world," said Arlette Valenita Iguado, student.
The school is currently looking at major grants to help fund the program and bring in more resources.
