US (MT): Bananas, papayas, pineapples and lemons flourish in Bitterroot greenhouse

March can be a blustery month in Montana. It introduces spring, but weather can be inconsistent. Greenhouses, however, can boost production of warm weather plants. In Hamilton, there' a particularly exotic greenhouse. ABC Acres property manager Dalton Brown invited NBC Montana into the ABC Acres Tropical Botanical Garden.

The garden seems a world away from a Montana March day.

"We're in a jungle," exclaimed Dalton, as he showed us some of the shiny leaved plants that thrive here. "This is our papaya. We've got passion fruit. Different gingers. A whole bunch of really cool things that you'd normally find in Florida or Hawaii."

"All," he said, " are able to grow here year-round happily."

Through a carefully controlled environment, Dalton Brown said the greenhouse pushes the boundaries of what you can grow in Montana.
