"This gutter is designed to prevent peat and debris from entering the drainage channel"

In spring 2026, Jeroen and Nancy Peeters will harvest for the first time in their most recent 1.25-hectare greenhouse expansion in Dongen (the Netherlands), for which Meteor Systems supplied the growing system.

"We started in 2005 in a 12,000 m² pepper greenhouse that we converted for strawberries," says Jeroen. "At that time, we already chose growing gutters from Meteor. We were very satisfied with them, so for the expansion at our home location in 2008 and for our second site in 2020 and 2025, we again chose growing gutters and irrigation from Meteor Systems."

Easy cleaning
For optimal ease of work, the growing system is identical across all greenhouse compartments: seven growing gutters per bay, with square pots. "We fill the trays with peat, irrigate them on the gutter, and then place the plants. In the newest greenhouse, we chose the GM-34 growing gutter on the advice of Erik van Nieuwenhuijzen. This gutter is designed to prevent peat and debris from entering the drainage channel. As a result, the system stays cleaner and is much easier to clean."

Reliable partners
"We prefer to work with fixed partners who think along with us and are there when needed. For example, if I want to reorder the same gutter brackets years after installation, Meteor arranges it straight away. That's quite special for a company of this size. The service is truly excellent."

Intensive growing strategy
More than 20 years after starting and following several expansions, the Peeters family now harvests almost year-round across a total of 5 hectares of greenhouse production. "We follow a fairly intensive growing strategy, aiming to harvest continuously from the end of March until Christmas. This keeps our permanent staff fully engaged and helps spread risk in terms of pricing and labour."

Across the four compartments, fresh planting of Sonsation, extended production of Elsanta, summer production of Opera, and now trial extended production of Opera follow each other. Sales are handled through The Greenery, alongside a portion of direct sales.

Combining with Mini-Air
With the recent expansion, the business is well balanced for Jeroen and Nancy. "We want to keep it manageable together and remain hands-on growers. What still interests us is expanding with a Mini-Air fruit cover for summer production. I believe the combination of greenhouse production in spring and autumn, and Mini-Air in summer, could work very well," concludes the grower.
