US (PA): Fairview greenhouse damaged by massive winds

As the owner of the Westside Market on Powell and No Dirt Farms, Amanda Hines is dedicated to growing high-quality produce. "We're a hydroponic farm," said Hines. "We supply to a lot of local places, including Mercyhurst College, Gordon's, and New York Lunch, and of course the Westside Market as well."

However, she's now dealing with a devastating blow from mother nature.

"We just sustained a detrimental experience with the wind," said Hines. "Right now, it's been very challenging for us, with everything that's been going on" On Sunday night, the high winds ripped the roof off of her greenhouse, exposing all of her equipment and lettuce to the elements.

"Running a hydroponic farm, everything is in an extremely controlled environment," said Hines. "If it didn't rain, we could have potentially covered it and maybe salvaged it, but with the low temperatures, today and last night, it just was about a total loss for us."
