BASF | Nunhems takes an important step in the truss tomato segment this season with the introduction of WinVine. This new variety is designed for high-tech growers aiming to combine maximum production with reliability under ToBRFV pressure. "WinVine offers a complete and well-balanced variety profile that not only delivers higher yields, but, more importantly, a greater share of marketable production," says Mitchel Visser. He recently joined the High-Tech Tomato team at the breeding company and, together with Ties Persoon, will be responsible for sales in the Benelux.

Introduction of WinVine
With WinVine, BASF | Nunhems introduces a variety that responds to the main challenges faced by modern high-tech growers: production, quality, and growing security under ToBRFV pressure.
Ties: "The variety combines strong genetic resistance with a vigorous and balanced plant that performs consistently. This results in stable production with a high proportion of marketable fruit, exactly what growers and buyers are looking for."
The key characteristics of WinVine are high production with a high fruit weight, between 150 and 180 grams, ToBRFV resistance for greater production security, and reliability due to excellent cluster formation with uniform fruit. The variety is also labour-friendly thanks to its short, open leaf structure and strong generative growth. In addition, it performs well against uneven ripening due to its stable and uniform colouration.
"With WinVine, we are taking an important step in expanding our range. The combination of high production, quality, and resistance makes this variety truly distinctive," said Cees Ammerlaan, Product Development at BASF | Nunhems.
WinVine widely tested in Belgium and the Netherlands
BASF | Nunhems' new tomato variety, WinVine, is showing strong performance in the first field trials in both Belgium and the Netherlands. At several locations, including Young Grow, one of the farms where WinVine is already being grown on a larger scale, the variety confirms its potential with consistent production and excellent fruit quality under a range of conditions, Ties shares. "These results make WinVine a reliable variety for growers looking for a future-proof and high-performing option."
Interested parties are welcome to visit one of the trial locations together with a BASF | Nunhems sales specialist, allowing them to experience firsthand what WinVine can offer within their crop.
Mitchel Visser joins High-Tech Tomato team
As of 1 January, Mitchel Visser has joined BASF | Nunhems' High-Tech Tomato team. Together with Ties Persoon, he will be responsible for sales in the Benelux region. The tomato sector is not unfamiliar territory for Mitchel:
"I have been involved in international sales on behalf of Valto over the past few years. During that time, I was able to get to know BASF | Nunhems up close. Its reputation and promising pipeline of innovative varieties really appealed to me. I am pleased to now be part of this team."
With Mitchel, the sales team gains a colleague who understands both the market and the challenges within horticulture. His experience aligns well with BASF | Nunhems' ambitions to expand further in high-value segments and to better support growers in their decisions.
With the arrival of Mitchel Visser and the introduction of WinVine, BASF | Nunhems is well positioned for a strong new season.
