A five-acre, $150,000 agricultural resource centre aimed at transforming agricultural education has been launched at Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC), positioning students to embrace modern, mechanised farming as a viable career path.
The initiative, spearheaded by the school's 2002 Odadeɛ Year Group, is expected to serve as a model agricultural training hub for secondary schools across the country. Vice President of the year group, Bismarck Osebeng, described the project as a bold shift towards technology-driven agriculture in senior high schools.
The agricultural resource centre will feature a modern greenhouse complex, poultry production units, fish farming systems, and integrated green spaces, all designed to operate as a self-sustaining ecosystem.
Although the school already maintains a farm, the new centre seeks to introduce advanced techniques that maximise yield on limited land while providing students with practical exposure to modern agribusiness models. The facility will include five greenhouse farms using hydroponic systems to cultivate high-yield crops, serving as practical laboratories for agricultural science students. It will also house multiple fish tanks for tilapia production, alongside open-field cultivation of tomatoes, onions and other vegetables.
