In western Romania, Agro Ferma Natura operates a modern hydroponic greenhouse focused on cherry tomato production. Founded by Monica Daniela Cicio, the company integrates climate control, substrate management and biological pollination to maintain consistent crop performance across production cycles.
Monica describes the production philosophy as a combination of environmental control and plant physiology. "In our hydroponic greenhouse, plants grow at a natural pace, supported by modern systems and the passion of the people behind them," she explains. The operation is based on controlled irrigation, precise fertigation and continuous monitoring of temperature, humidity and light levels to ensure uniform development.

Early crop management and substrate strategy
At the early stage of the current cycle, the technical team focused on plant establishment and structural formation. "We are placing the rockwool cubes onto the coconut substrate to ensure uniform plant establishment," she notes. This approach supports stable root-zone conditions while allowing flexibility in irrigation management.
In parallel, the crop is managed for optimized density. "We are suckering and forming an extra plant from the mother plant, keeping one side shoot and training it as an additional stem to optimize plant density and future production," she says. According to Monica, these early interventions contribute to "healthy plant development, well-structured plants, efficient use of space and resources, and high-quality cherry tomato production."

Regular external technical oversight is also part of the management strategy. A crop consultant from Hungary visits weekly to review plant balance, fruit load and environmental parameters, supporting data-driven adjustments.

Climate control and fruit set
Recent updates indicate stable vegetative growth and consistent fruit development. "The plants have grown to an impressive height, with strong and balanced development," she reports. Uniform leaf formation and steady cluster initiation are visible across both greenhouse units.
Fruit set has progressed evenly. "The cherry tomatoes have reached a beautiful size, with uniform clusters forming steadily along the plants. Fruit setting is progressing very well, reflecting stable growing conditions and precise environmental control," she states. Maintaining optimal nutrition, irrigation volumes and EC levels remains a priority as the crop transitions further into generative growth.

Biological pollination
Pollination is managed using commercial bumblebee hives, reducing reliance on manual techniques. "In our greenhouse, bumblebee families play a vital role in the natural balance and productivity of our plants." She highlights the efficiency of vibration pollination: "Through gentle vibrations, they release pollen from the flowers, a process that significantly improves fruit set, shape, and overall quality."
The integration of biological pollination supports uniform fruit formation and aligns with the company's objective of resource-efficient production.

Variety selection and market positioning
The current crop includes the cherry tomato varieties Sunstream and Brioso. Monica describes Sunstream as characterized by balance and sweetness, while Brioso is selected for firmness and stability in cocktail-type segments. Variety choice is aligned with market demand for consistent flavor, cluster uniformity, and post-harvest performance.
The company's production model centers on controlled-input hydroponics, biological pollination, and continuous crop monitoring to achieve predictable yields and uniform quality.
With plants now well established and clusters forming evenly, Agro Ferma Natura is entering the next phase of production with a focus on maintaining plant balance and delivering consistent cherry tomato output under controlled greenhouse conditions.
