US: Growing 25,000 square feet of produce 8,000 feet above sea level

Silver Stream Farm in Pinedale is proving that fresh produce can thrive at 8,000 feet. What began in 2023 as a mission to address Wyoming's high-elevation food desert has grown into a 25,000-square-foot greenhouse operation serving Sublette and Teton counties. In 2025 alone, the farm expanded from 63 direct customers to more than 280, reflecting rapid demand for locally grown food in a region with a growing season of fewer than 90 days.

Founded after entrepreneur Dakin Sloss purchased the 600-acre property, the farm uses advanced greenhouse technology inspired in part by Dutch indoor farming systems. Starting with a single 5,000-square-foot greenhouse, the operation has expanded to five climate-controlled greenhouses with heated floors, curtain insulation systems and computer-managed irrigation. A 10-person team manages everything from leafy greens and fruiting crops to harvesting and packing.

The year 2025 marked a turning point. The farm launched its first community supported agriculture (CSA) program, began selling at farmers markets in Jackson and Bondurant, and rebranded from SatChitAnanda Ranch to Silver Stream Farm. It also introduced specialty crops like lion's mane and blue oyster mushrooms, adding a new, highly technical growing system to its production and further diversifying its offerings.

Beyond direct sales, Silver Stream Farm partners with local food banks and regional producers to strengthen Wyoming's food system. Through grants and creative distribution solutions, it supplies fresh produce to organizations in Pinedale, Jackson and beyond, with expansion underway into Star Valley and Lincoln County. As production continues to scale toward full capacity, the farm is focused on widening access to fresh, locally grown food while keeping distribution sustainable and cost-effective.
