CapGen Seeds' strategy to complete its California pepper portfolio continues to hit key milestones. Following the consolidation of Cancerbero and Arquero, the company is officially introducing Vigilante this week, its dedicated option for transplanting between August 1 and 15 in the western Almeria area.
The launch will take place through Open Field Days on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 in San Agustín, El Ejido, where growers will be able to see a variety designed to address the three main challenges of the late cycle, labour costs, winter health issues and fruit quality.

Vigilante offers a clear operational advantage for growers. Thanks to the positioning of its peduncle, the fruit detaches easily, allowing for manual harvesting without the use of scissors. This feature speeds up picking and significantly reduces labour costs throughout the season.
From a commercial standpoint, Vigilante produces G to GG sized fruit, with an average weight of 200 to 220 grams, making it well suited for flow pack presentation and export programmes that penalise excessive fruit size. The variety also stands out for its clean, glossy skin, the absence of silvering or micro cracking, and high tolerance to cracking, ensuring excellent post harvest performance.
To cope with winter conditions, Vigilante develops a vigorous, well balanced, open plant. Its disease resistance package is one of the most complete in the catalog:
- Resistances: high resistance, HR, to L4, Tm 0 to 3, and intermediate resistance, IR, to spotted, TSWV, powdery mildew, Lt, and nematodes, Ma, Mi and Mj.
-
Fungal behaviour: the technical data highlights its good behaviour against Botrytis, a crucial added value to prevent rots during periods of high relative humidity.

The event will be held on the farm of grower Rafael Martos in San Agustín. The CapGen Seeds commercial team will be on site to advise visitors on crop management and the specific characteristics of this new variety.
With the arrival of Vigilante, CapGen Seeds further strengthens its "Guardians of the Pepper" line, a range that continues to expand with targeted, resilient solutions for each planting window.
