NL: BioVerbeek expands organic cultivation by 4 hectares

Organic grower BioVerbeek is expanding by 4 hectares. The growers from Velden are taking over an existing greenhouse, which they will convert to organic cultivation, reports cooperative Harvest House, to which the growers are affiliated. In total, BioVerbeek will grow organic tomatoes and peppers on 14 hectares from 2026, following the takeover.

Through this expansion, Harvest House's total organic acreage will increase to 40 hectares, representing about half of the entire Dutch organic acreage.

Earlier this year, Harvest House had already expressed its ambition to grow. The cooperative stated in trade magazine Primeur that it was considering an expansion of around 5 to 10 hectares within the next three years. Lowie Verbeek of BioVerbeek added: "For sales in the Netherlands alone, 10 hectares might be a lot and could cause the market to collapse too much, but if you also focus on exports, that's fine."
