Cannabis cultivation continues to spread in the province of Cadiz, pushing law enforcement to increase surveillance as growers adopt new strategies to avoid detection.
After officers recently discovered a cannabis farm hidden beneath a turkey facility in Sanlucar de Barrameda, the National Police has now located three greenhouses in the La Algaida area where cannabis plants were concealed among tomato crops.
The structures appeared to operate as normal agricultural greenhouses dedicated to tomato production. However, a section of each greenhouse was used for illicit cannabis cultivation. According to police, the growers used tall plants to create both a visual and thermal barrier, making the drug more difficult to detect.
The investigation, which took place over several weeks, allowed officers to identify the greenhouses and arrest two individuals suspected of managing and maintaining the operation. The cannabis grown in these facilities showed a high yield, making greenhouses an appealing environment for drug trafficking groups.
Once the police work was completed, the detained individuals and the seized material were placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction on duty in Sanlucar de Barrameda.
