With its newly developed twines, Erich Baumeister GmbH offers an environmentally friendly alternative for modern fruit and vegetable cultivation. The industry supplier's latest, completely biodegradable solution can be used both in greenhouses and outdoors. "They offer the same stability as conventional plastic strings – but without compromising on sustainability and environmental compatibility. Users can reliably support their crops as they grow – while also supporting nature's natural cycle," explains Managing Director Sylvia Segeler on request.
The latest solution from the Laer (Münsterland)-based company is available in two versions, Segeler continues. "Jute twine is a robust natural product that is primarily suitable for heavier crops such as tomatoes or cucumbers. Jute is particularly tear-resistant, durable, and completely compostable. This makes jute twine a natural, stable solution with authentic character."

Among other things, the binding machines and natural nets are well-known and proven in the fruit and vegetable industry.
Cotton and viscose
The second variant is twines made from a cotton and viscose blend, which, according to the manufacturer, are gentle on plants and strong in use. Segeler: "These strings are made of viscose and recycled cotton, which is why they are gentle on plants, easy to grip, and consistent in handling. They are also available in different thicknesses and lengths, making them perfect for individual growing conditions."

There is potential for use in commercial horticulture in particular.
Both variants are compostable without leaving any residue and are suitable for the biomass process. They are also free of (micro)plastics and therefore sustainable and resource-saving. In addition, the strings are UV-resistant and weatherproof, which contributes to their high reliability in different weather conditions, whether sun, rain, or wind. Finally, the solution is plant-friendly and easy to use, the team says.
"We have developed a product that perfectly combines nature, quality, and practicality. True to the motto 'Tie naturally. Grow naturally,' our main concern was to offer commercial horticulture durable materials that optimally support the respective plants while protecting the environment," the company concludes.
