At Emsflower you step into a world where plant production, innovation, sustainability and experience go hand in hand. The family business is one of the largest nurseries in Europe, specialized in the large-scale production of bedding and potted plants. The company also grows various types of tomatoes through its subsidiary Emsland Gemüse.
The latest extension to their greenhouse complex was realized by Havecon. 'What they have put up in such a short time is really incredibly clever. That is definitely their USP', says Tom.
In touch with consumers
Emsflower does a lot in its sector in-house: from breeding and cutting production to sales. What makes the company extra special is their in-house Erlebnispark. In the park, visitors - young and old - are playfully introduced to the world of plant and food production. There is a tropical greenhouse with butterflies, a show greenhouse, a play jungle, catering facilities and a visitor bridge that leads you through the production hall. Tom: 'It's not only a fun outing, but also a way to make people aware of where their products come from and how they are produced. We think that connection with the public is important.'
And on top of that, Emsflower also has a garden center, which puts them even more in touch with consumers. 'That gives us a lot of contact with consumers and valuable insights into their wishes. Without a park like ours, you're much further away from that.'
Integrating smart technology into construction
Sustainability is an essential part of business operations. 'Last year we already operated 92% fossil-free', Tom says. 'We even have a surplus of green energy compared to our remaining consumption.' Emsflower is continuing that sustainable course in cooperation with Havecon. 'In the new building they have integrated solar panels into the deck. That's a solution that, oddly enough, you don't see much in the sector in our area yet. Havecon has really taken the lead in this.'

Building fast without concessions
The cooperation with Havecon was not only smooth, but also fast. 'We placed the official order on October 11 and by March 90% of the project was already up and running', says Tom. 'That's bizarrely fast. That speed, without concessions to quality, is really admirable.' Cooperation with the subcontractor also went well. 'Sometimes things go differently than planned, but then they are immediately switched and solved. That just works fine.' What Tom particularly appreciates is the good relationship. 'We have an informal communication, switch quickly and you notice that Havecon also treats the people on the floor nicely. That is important to us.'
On to the next project
The cooperation clearly makes Emsflower wish for more. 'This was our first collaboration with Havecon, but certainly not our last', says Tom. 'Everything went smoothly, we had no conflicts and are very satisfied with the (almost) result.' New building plans for the future are certain. 'We will continue to expand. I'm still holding off on what the next project will be, but it will probably be vegetables. That will be a nice addition to our existing operations.'
