Analyzing substrates for growth in the Ukraine

Over five hectares of tomatoes and three hectares of cucumbers are grown in greenhouses in the village of Zoria in the Rivne region. The finished products are sold at markets in various regions of Ukraine. In the village of Zoria, located in the Rivne region, there are greenhouses where tomatoes and cucumbers are grown.

"I came here when I was young in 1987, and I have been working here ever since: from planting, growing seedlings, planting, tying, and until the end," shared enterprise employee Halyna Havryliuk. Tomatoes and cucumbers are grown on coconut substrate, as explained by the chief agronomist of the enterprise, Mykola Sych:

"To feed this plant, we analyze what is in the substrate every two weeks. We make some adjustments for nutrition. Everything can be grown in soil, it's just new technological possibilities. Previously, we grew on mineral wool, everything seemed fine, but since there are some problems with the disposal of mineral wool and its further use, coconut is an organic substrate."

Mykola Sych noted that special bumblebees are used for pollinating tomatoes. "We grow pink tomatoes, which were sown at the end of December. Starting from the beginning of April, we harvest tomatoes from these hectares. Bumblebees pollinate our tomatoes, which we bring every month, two to three hives per hectare, because without them, pollination will not occur," he added.
