Braham Produce may not be one of Australia's bigger producers of capsicums, but they pride themselves on being one of the best quality providers in the sector. The company grows capsicums in just over 2 hectares of greenhouses in South Australia, growing around 60,000 plants.

"All of our production is done in greenhouses, which by Australian standards are pretty high-tech," explains Evan Braham, who works at the family business. "All of our greenhouses have retractable roofs, misters, and screens to protect from the harsh sunlight and heat in the summer months."

The main production is in red capsicums, but the company also grows some yellow and orange fruit.
"Our season runs from June/ July until late May/ June. We stop for about two months each year, this is when we fumigate the greenhouses and prepare for the new season. We have our first peak production in November."

Although the capsicum is grown in greenhouses, the weather still has a big effect. "The light levels are a big factor for us, in the winter there is less light and heat, but during the summer months when temperatures can get as high as 40-45 degrees, we chalk the roofs and use screens to stop the fruit getting sunburnt."
Braham Produce sends the capsicum to wholesalers in Perth and Brisbane, also some to Sydney and wholesalers in South Australia.

"Demand has been good this year, but it can be a bit up and down. It always picks up towards the end of the year when there is no production from Queensland. We pack our fruit on site in our distinctive Braham Produce boxes. We are well known for our great quality. This is something my father has built up over the years, by only supplying our best fruit to the markets."
