FV Seleqt is introducing a new premium range of colored cherry tomatoes on the vine. This line includes cherry tomatoes in black, olive green, orange, and ivory—the latter being a shade between white and yellow. These varieties come from the "own" garden of Eminent Produce, where many new tomato varieties are tested. "Starting from week 21, we have a limited supply of about three to four pallets available per week," says product manager Norman van Domburg. "If the line proves popular, we hope to scale up production further. This line, marketed under our brand Eminent, fits perfectly within our distinctive brand portfolio."

"The variety belongs to the finer segment and features a beautiful cluster formation with each fruit weighing about 15 grams. Initially, we harvested the first clusters separately to ensure a uniform cluster with perfect flavor. It is definitely not a bulk product, so we position it in the higher segment," says Norman. "For that reason, we have not included a red tomato in the line, as there is already plenty of supply, and we want to keep the line distinctive."

He highlights the taste of the tomatoes as particularly surprising. "The olive green and black tomatoes really impressed me," he says. "Often, colored tomatoes are visually appealing but lack flavor. That's not the case with these. The olive green tomato, which is often thought to be unripe, is incredibly sweet. The black tomato starts off green like red tomatoes and only turns black with plenty of light. This results in some color variation at the crown, which adds a surprising effect."

FV Seleqt recently conducted an internal promotion campaign, resulting in numerous samples being sent to customers in Germany, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and even the Far East this week. The initial reactions have been very positive. "Starting next week, the tomatoes will be available for order. We are targeting smaller retailers, the food service industry, and hospitality, but these tomatoes are also perfect for enthusiastic foodies or home cooks who want to serve something special," concludes Norman.
