Speranza Srl obtains the Hormone Free certification for aubergines

Growing hormone- and nickel-free aubergines is possible and profitable

"The field management of aubergines presents several critical issues in the seasonal rotation, between warm autumns, cold winters, and the warm Sicilian springs. That is why it is necessary to implement precise agronomic measures in order to keep yields constant," reports Giuseppe Speranza, production manager at Speranza Srl.

"Our company has developed new protocols for aubergines which not only guarantee a constant production, but also improve healthiness thanks to a lower use of plant protection products and the absence of hormones. These protocols are in addition to the Nickel Tested certification, provided for the correct information to those suffering from allergies to the heavy metals potentially present in vegetables. Speaking of Hormone Free, we are the first company in Europe, at least to the best of our knowledge, to be certified Hormone Free for aubergines. The certifying body is RINA."

"Several international retail brands have taken us into consideration in recent years," says Alessandro Speranza, the company's sales manager, "just as partnerships with national large-scale retailers have grown. But our packaging, recently renewed when it comes to the colouring of the crates (now a brighter green), has also played its part, as we have introduced family-sized nets containing three to four fruits. In this case, we are talking about green, yellow, and red lamuyo peppers (mixed 500 g nets) or round, long, or purple aubergines, in half-kg nets.

Aubergines - the production that never stops
Speranza handles the whole range of greenhouse vegetables from table tomatoes to courgettes, cucumbers and the already-mentioned peppers and aubergines. This last product constitutes the company's core business and available all year round without interruption, with great guarantees on the food safety front. The standards set by law and by retailers are complied with for all other products too.

"We always carry out promotion and communication activities, and we participate in all major international trade fairs in the professional horticultural sector. We could not, therefore, miss Macfrut 2025, where we will be present with our own space in Hall D4/Stand 033. It will also be an opportunity to better explain to our future new business partners how our Nickel Tested (in soil) and Hormone Free protocols work."
