Family history continued with strawberry farming

One greenhouse after another is being demolished in the Barendrecht region, but 26-year-old Ewout Booij has just started a business on 3e Barendrechtseweg in Barendrecht. In the local newspaper De Schakel, he talks about the establishment of BijBooij Fruit. Ewout is continuing the family tradition in a different form. The melons, pumpkins, and peonies grown in recent years have now been replaced by strawberries, with the young gardener at the helm.

Ewout was previously a site manager at a young plant nursery. He was able to acquire racks from a retiring strawberry grower. From June to mid-September, strawberries are harvested and sold locally. "Half a kilometre away, the first residential area starts. Here we produce for consumers, so it's a great place," he says.
