With a constant growth in turnover both in Italy and abroad, 4ESSE - a company from Calabria specializing in the production of polypropylene and polyethylene plastic crates for the transport of fresh produce and of plastic ducts for soilless crops - ended 2023 on a positive note.

"As well as in Italy, our ducts for hydroponic cultivation are very popular in three countries increasingly oriented towards protected cultivation in order to obtain excellent quality and yields - Morocco, France and southern Spain. Sales are proceeding very well," report company owners Giuseppe, Valerio and Stanislao Caratozzolo. "Ducts are made up mostly of recycled material (80%), plus they are grey in color and with a dimension of 150x31x8 cm."
"A few years ago, the decision of introducing plastic ducts for hydroponic cultivation was driven by the need to tackle various problems observed in the previous iron versions, including the deterioration caused by rust, the costs incurred due to periodic maintenance and temperature variations."
"We have updated our system of plastic ducts and now, in addition to traditional soilless crops such as tomatoes, lettuce and strawberries, we can obtain efficient cultivation of eggplants, cucumbers, saffron, basil, chili peppers, light cannabis and numerous other products. What is more, it will no longer be necessary to use silicone to assemble the ducts, as specific gaskets are provided."
As of this year, 4ESSE is also supplying rods to support the ducts, made of plastic with an inner iron core (side photo).
