NL: Searching for 'shallow' geothermal energy in Erica

The Geothermal Group Netherlands (GGN) has plans to extract geothermal energy from 25 locations in the horticultural area near Erica. Chairman Andre Mol expects to commence with the installation of the first five systems by November next year, as reported by RTV Drenthe.

The organization has already secured the necessary exploration permit for the project. Unlike the horticultural area near Klazienaveen, where geothermal energy is also being pursued, this project does not involve extracting geothermal heat from old gas wells. In Erica, they will penetrate the ground less deeply. GGN focuses on extracting geothermal energy at a depth of 1650 meters.
