Asia sees growing need for high-quality produce and leafy greens

“Our aeroponic, vertical systems can deliver up to 10 times more produce than a conventional farm of the same size due to the vertical nature of the systems. In addition, the Aerospring aeroponic growing process produces up to 30% greater yields, 3 times faster compared to traditional farming methods, while using 90% less water. Therefore, we believe that we have a viable, low-cost alternative for farmers to increase their output in a relatively small space,” says Mark Newton, Chief Operating Officer at Aerospring Hydroponics, a Singaporean agtech supplier of growing towers.

“Our systems, in an outdoor environment or a greenhouse, do not require such heavy electricity expenditures, require less land as they are vertical systems, and can output more produce per square meter, require less technology, and are easier to manage than more traditional farming methods and even other hydroponic systems. Therefore, we believe that we have a viable, low-cost alternative for farmers to increase their output in a relatively small space,” says Mark Newton, Chief Operating Officer at Aerospring Hydroponics, a Singaporean agtech supplier of growing towers.

Launching its patented hydroponic growing towers, Singaporean company Aerospring Hydroponics is ready to take on the commercial market globally after seeing a rise in demand. Traditionally targeting B2C, the agtech company has supplied numerous schools, corporates, and maritime businesses. Yet, given their location, the core market will be commercial farms across Asia, notably Southeast Asia, India, and Australia, as they move into 2024.

Trends in Asia
Mark and his team have noticed a few macro-trends in Asia, which they are keeping an eye on. Firstly, the middle class is growing globally, with Asia having the fastest-growing middle class globally. As this segment grows, they will want healthier lifestyles and better food choices, including healthier leafy greens and vegetables. Secondly, they are seeing trends in India where, due to the heavy metal content of their soil, consumers are looking for hydroponically grown produce, particularly for their leafy greens.

On top of these noticeable trends, they have also seen numerous indoor farming operations shut down globally. However, as Aerospring believes, their systems allow the farm to set up and operate in a lower-cost manner.

Currently, Aerospring is in conversation with potential customers to set up projects for the first quarter of 2024. As of today, the company has sold over 4,000 of its patented hydroponic systems globally and has an online support community of over 2,500 active Aerospring gardeners. Their systems can be found in over 300 schools globally and also on over 200 shipping vessels.

“Our systems bring scalability to the modern farm,” says Thorben. “The Aerospring system is modular and can be built to various heights. As such, the application of Aerospring systems allows the commercial farm to customize the capacity of each vertical pole to meet their yield targets. In addition, it is so easy to set up, clean, and maintain, it brings tremendous efficiency to the farm while also delivering very high yields.”
