Prices for Belarusian vegetables and fruits will not be regulated

Prices for Belarusian vegetables and fruits will not be regulated, according to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of the Republic of Belarus (MART). Natalia Melnikova, head of the Department of Trade and Public Catering, stated that there is no need to introduce price regulation for domestic fruit and vegetable products, as they are already inexpensive. She emphasized that the prices for Belarusian vegetables are already low, and therefore, there is no need for additional regulation.

Currently, the maximum trade markup for fruit and vegetable products is set at 30%. MART ensures an adequate supply of vegetables and fruits, primarily for domestic consumers.

Melnikova noted that if there is a price distortion, especially in the Russian Federation, where it may be advantageous for Belarusian producers to sell goods for export quickly, disregarding stabilization funds, MART will take strict measures.

She explained that if products from stabilization funds are not selected, the custodian can decide to dispose of this production at their discretion – either for processing or export.
