Kodiak Harvest Food Co-op, a locally owned grocery store, raised $770 for the Kodiak Middle School’s agriculture program, according to a press release from their board of directors. The co-op raised the money through a silent dessert auction held during the co-op’s annual meeting.
Staff said in the release the Kodiak Middle School agriculture program allows students to experience our food systems, from seed to harvest, and sell produce through the Co-op when in full production. The program includes two hoop houses, which are like green houses, with a variety of edible foliage as well as an indoor hydroponic system.
Kodiak Harvest Food said in the release that supporting the school program aligns with the organization’s goal by maximizing food security on the island and supporting young growers.
