Totam Seeds introduces TopGun in the high-tech greenhouse market

Dutch seed company Totam Seeds is introducing its new rootstock named TopGun. "Through multiple years of trials conducted under high-tech greenhouse conditions, we are thrilled to officially introduce TopGun to our valued customers worldwide," states Pieter Vermeulen, Product Development Manager at Totam Seeds. The company specializes in the development, production, and sale of high-quality tomato hybrid seeds for high-tech greenhouse markets.

"TopGun shows early maturity, yielding better results during the initial 33-35 weeks of production while maintaining the combined color and size of the grafted variety. TopGun combines a strong vigor with a generative and open plant canopy. It proves to be a great combination with the vigorous scions of today. It's easier to steer the crop and keep a balanced plant. Balanced plants will also save labor costs and energy."

Jack Groenewegen, the co-owner of The Valley and the Chairman of Prominent, one of the largest growers' associations in the Netherlands controlling over 600ha of high-tech tomato production, has decided to use Top Gun in his commercial greenhouse in the coming season.

He says: "TopGun is a strong and generative rootstock. Given the vigorous and vegetative habit of today's scions, including many of the newly introduced ToBRFV-resistant varieties, a strong and generative rootstock is required. TopGun is a good combination. What also excites me is that Totam is also developing a ToBRFV-resistant rootstock, and we are happy to see it also performing well in our greenhouse."

Trials with TopGun were conducted in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Canada, Australia, Morocco, China, Japan, and Italy. Trials in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Canada, and Australia were under high-tech conditions. Trials were also completed at Jack's greenhouse, and he is now adopting TopGun commercially.
