First panels on the water at Hoogweg Paprika Nurseries

Thirty-two thousand solar panels producing 18 megawatts of electricity on a summer's day. These are some serious figures that come with the installation of solar panels at Hoogweg Paprikakwekerijen. Growers' cooperative Oxin Growers is investing in solar panels at several members, including at Hoogweg.

These are solar panels on water from ZonopWaterbassin.nl (Aquasol Solar). A special feature is that the panels are anchored in a special way. "Thanks to the anchoring system, much less light enters the basin," Willem Verwoerd explained during the horticultural trade fair HortiContact. "That prevents algae growth. An additional advantage is that the grower receives a new slope cloth when the anchor system is installed. In that cloth, the anchor system is integrated."

Meanwhile, at the large pepper grower, the first panels are on the water basin, a video on Facebook shows. Read the whole article, including an explanation of the solar panel choice by Hans Olsthoorn, financial director at Hoogweg Paprika Nurseries, here.
