Simon Ackermann Fruchtimport Ltd to market French Savéol tomatoes:

"Instead of pesticides, only beneficial insects are used, which is near our goal of sustainability"

Over the years, the pesticide-free tomatoes of French company Savéol have also been able to establish themselves well in the premium segment of the German food retail trade. Simon Ackermann Fruchtimport Ltd, a long-standing marketing partner on the German market, points this out.

Consumers are increasingly price-conscious
Due to rising inflation and the more price-conscious purchasing behavior of consumers, sales have declined somewhat this year. One notices that the higher-priced segments suffer under the current circumstances, said Dario Plesa, who for many years has been a buyer and salesman of the Simon Ackermann Fruchtimport Ltd.

The Koblenz fruit trading company has been working closely with Savéol for 25 years now and markets its tomatoes as one of the few suppliers on the German market. Savéol tomatoes are largely produced without the use of pesticides. "Instead of pesticides, only beneficial organisms are used, which is very near our goal of sustainability and meets the spirit of the times."

What distinguishes French tomatoes from producers in other countries, he says, is the wide variety of old varieties, as well as the focus of production on flavor and resource conservation. Says Plesa, "This is also evident in the full conversion of product packaging to sustainable cardboard packaging."

Heat consequences begin to emerge
In addition to inflation and the resulting price increases, Simon Ackermann Ltd is also facing the consequences of the ongoing heat wave in large parts of Europe. Plesa: "The Great Catastrophe is still a long time coming, although the qualities and availability of numerous products are already noticeably declining. As far as our Savéol range is concerned, the availabilities are still there, as the goods are produced in the greenhouse."
