Berkvens Greenhouse Mobility presents the latest addition to its scissor lift collection. Besides the GL3500-D (2-scissors) and the GL5000-D (3-scissors) the series is now extended with the GL6500-D (4-scissors). This scissor lift has been developed through the need of the market and the increasing requirements set by labor inspection. To make the GLD series complete, one height was still missing. The new scissor lift is completely CE approved, is able to reach heights of a maximum of 6.5 meters, and has fully hydraulic outriggers.
“The requirements of labor inspection have been of great importance in the development of the new scissor lift. In the sector, we’re seeing more and more inspections for lift equipment,” says Ton van Hout, R&D at Berkvens. “The main question was: 'How can we meet the wishes and needs of the growers and greenhouse builders but within the regulations concerning safety?' It turned out to be a tremendous challenge. But when you develop a product that meets both requirements, it makes you not only proud of the product but also very proud of the team who made this possible.”
Many industrial product groups may only be traded in the European Economic Area (EEA) if they are CE certified, Ton adds. “This indicates that Berkvens Greenhouse Mobility, declare that we comply with all EU legislation that corresponds to the health, safety, performance, and environmental requirements relevant to this scissor trolley. Moreover, this is a type 4 machine, which means that the NOBO has been watching our work closely.” The hydraulic outriggers and the fact that the scissor lift is CE-approved make this scissor lift truly unique.
The hydraulic outriggers can be operated from the control panel on the platform. This means that growers don't have to leave the scissor lift to deploy the outriggers. After all, when deploying the outriggers manually, you have to walk around the scissor lift, which could damage the crop or may transmit viruses. A control panel is therefore a welcome addition for the ultimate ease of use, besides that the outriggers make sure you can always work stable and safe. “It’s always a challenge to find the right balance between regulations and ease of use. The most important thing in the development of this scissor lift is to continue the strength of the GL3500-D and GL5000-D: 'Easy to drive, ergonomic design, low maintenance level and easy to service”, says Ton.
The heights this pipe rail trolley can reach make the 4-scissor extremely suitable not only for growers but also for greenhouse builders. The machine can reach heights of 6.5 meters in a safe environment for the users. In addition, Berkvens can provide growers with scissor lifts with the track size that suits them. It’s a more compact and flexible scissor lift in use than the ones they used before.
“The development of the scissor trolley has been very intensive and challenging. To show the new scissor lift to the market for the first time is a big achievement. Over the past months, the scissor lift has been tested and the first experiences are extremely positive. We are looking forward to what the coming weeks will bring us,” Ton concludes.
