Cambodian industry explores ways to increase chilli cultivation

The Department of Horticulture and GIZ Asean held workshops in Phnom Penh to promote chili cultivation aimed at the domestic and international markets. Ngin Chhay from the General Directorate of Agriculture said two of the workshops were related to chili production, and the third focused on the development of chili export guidelines.

“Overall purpose of the workshop is to gather additional inputs for developing guidelines for the production and export of chili, and specific objectives include presenting the results, potential challenges, and key experiences in the chili production chain in Cambodia,” Chhay said.

Hun Lak, Chairman of the Board of Cambodia Rice Federation and President of Tropicam Food and Vegetable, said that discussions focused on the challenges related to high-cost production lines with a lack of varieties, technical skills, and export markets.
