France: cucumber prices are up

Cucumber prices have increased with the rise in energy costs, much like many other products.

Producers are worried about these higher prices. With 1.50€  [1.60 USD] for a French cucumber, consumers could easily turn to Spanish cucumbers, which are 0.40€ [0.43 USD] cheaper.

Some producers see their gas bills exploding, from 200,000 to 800,000 euros [212,760 to 851,050 USD], in addition to other costs that also continue to soar. For the professionals in the sector, the only solution is to get help from the French government or increase the price of their products. Negotiations are currently underway with retailers, but if no agreement is found, some producers plan to lower their production.
