Herb consumption is growing steadily:

Parsley is by far the favorite herb of the Germans

Kitchen herbs and microgreens are almost omnipresent. Even if they are rarely the main protagonists on the plate, the aromatic herbs play a very important role in the overall composition: Not least for this reason, they are equally popular with both amateur and professional chefs. Over the past 5 years, herb consumption in German private households has risen steadily - from 35.1 kg/100 households (2017) to 40.0 kg/100 households (2021)*.

Right at the top of the consumption ranking is - unsurprisingly - the Germans' favorite herb: parsley. But other herbs also enjoy great popularity. These domestic herbs tasted best to Germans last year.

* Basil 6.5 kg / 100 households
* Cress 3.5 kg / 100 households
* Chives 2.7 kg / 100 households
* Mint 2,5 kg / 100 households
* Dill 2,3 kg / 100 households
* Coriander 1,3 kg / 100 households
* Rosemary 1,1 kg / 100 households
