Chinese growers capitalize on greenhouse screens

Screens can effectively help reduce the intensity of sunlight in greenhouses. Weather screens also reduce the cost of raising/reducing temperatures or regulating humidity levels. They minimize the impact of a scorching sun, torrential rain, and high temperatures. Moreover, they raise the production volume. At the same time, how many types of weather screens are there at the moment? Zoe, General Manager at Shanghai Yongor Industrial Co., Ltd., recently talked about weather screens.

Shanghai Yongor Industrial was established in 2001. The company has accumulated much experience in the field of weather screens. According to Zoe, Yongor Industrial supplies a wide variety of weather screens for indoor and outdoor use, including screens that provide shade, fire-resistant screens, anti-bug netting, ground-covers, custom-made skylights, and screens that preserve heat. The company products have sold very well in domestic and overseas markets since 2003. Shanghai Yongor Industrial works together with 8 large international agents who export their products to Spain, the Netherlands, the USA, Israel, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Australia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia. "We have manufacturing facilities in Jinshan in Shanghai, and in Jiangsu. And we can guarantee steady product movement."

When talking about the differences between the domestic and international markets, Zoe explained, "overseas buyers, such as the Dutch, have a lot of knowledge and experience with weather screens. They are already able to directly purchase exactly what they need. Chinese greenhouse agriculture has rapidly developed in the last few decades, so Chinese planters are gradually learning what types or specific models they require. For the last 20 years, our main clients have been greenhouse suppliers. They purchase products from us on the basis of their project specifications. However, as domestic planters mature, they become more specialized. We find that more and more domestic planters purchase directly from us. And we can help them with much more than just the products. We offer them ideas and recommendations as well. Domestic planters have a huge need for weather screens that protect from direct sunlight and reduce the temperature in their greenhouse. They often use black weather screens in their greenhouse projects, unlike foreign planters who rarely use black weather screens. We can manufacture different colors of sunscreens for external use and offer our clients a choice."

Clients consider price one of the most important factors that influences their decision to purchase weather screens, but there are other factors as well. According to Zoe, "the product quality of Yongor products is stable and exceptional. Moreover, the price-quality ratio is excellent. We even sent our products to Wageningen University for a series of tests to show how much confidence we have in our products. We let the test results speak for themselves. Chinese planters prefer scientific data and test reports. At the same time, we also compete with overseas brands on the basis of price. We offer lower prices, and Chinese planters always prefer lower prices."

"Yongor Industrial has secured a significant market share both in China and abroad. When we started out, export was an important part of our services. We exported nearly 50% of our products, primarily to Europe and the USA. However, in recent years the domestic market has grown. Many planters are building large-scale greenhouses and other horticultural installations. This is an amazing business opportunity for us. Export costs have gone up during the pandemic, and that has an impact on our export business. Conditions are now improving. The prices of raw materials have gone up, but not enough to affect our business. We have not had to shift the burden of rising costs to our clients. And, in this exceptional time, we hope to help Chinese greenhouse agriculture develop even further," added Zoe.

Planters pay more and more attention to energy use and sustainable development. Saving energy will be an important consideration for future product development. In the past, planters only cared about the effectiveness of weather screens, but now they have more concerns. They prefer products that can help save energy. They also come up with their own plans to save energy. They have to choose between cost and profit.
