"Exports are our main business, and the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in international fuel prices, putting a lot of pressure on us. Previously, a 40-foot container cost only 2,500 US dollars shipping from Ningbo to California, but now it is basically maintained at about 10,000 US dollars, and the highest price could reach 14,000 US dollars. The increase in freight rates made us raise the price of our products appropriately, but the impact on our profitability is still very high. Customers also understood and accepted the increased price, as the pandemic caused a shortage of local production. During such time, we will do our best to get through the difficulties with our customers."
Talking about the differences between Chinese and foreign markets, Alex shared, "the competition in the Chinese market is fierce, and in the case of tunnel greenhouses, Chinese customers are more price sensitive. In contrast, foreign customers usually consider reputation on the basis of comparing prices. Foreign projects require a long process of building trust in the early stages. If we have already had a relatively successful case or a good reputation in the local area, the opportunity for cooperation can be much higher. Fortunately, Fenglong has been operating overseas for nearly 20 years, and we have maintained a good reputation. Our customers are willing to introduce us to new customers, and we cooperate more extensively on product updates.
