Heating a greenhouse with sugar factory waste water in Ankara

The second period of seedling planting in the Etimesgut greenhouse took place after the opening speech of Turkseker Tarim AS General Manager Muhammed Gumussoy.

In the greenhouse where 50,000 tomato seedlings will be planted, 40 harvests will be made annually and an average of 30 tons of tomatoes will be collected in each harvest. The annual target production volume is 1,200 tons of tomatoes. Good agricultural practice rules will be applied in the greenhouse where 12 hives of bamboo bees will be used by natural methods for pollination of tomato flowers.

Using condensed water of Ankara Sugar Factory will lead to significant savings in heating costs, which constitute approximately 50% of greenhouse costs in central Anatolian conditions, thus the sugar factory will save on cooling costs and the greenhouse will save on heating costs.

Etimesgut Greenhouse will not only set an example for controlled, hydroponic greenhouse production, but will also support the regional economy with the added value it creates, contribute to employment, and most importantly, offer controlled, hormone-free and healthy products to the consumers.
