China: Breeding in an RV, where plants in all latitudes around the world can grow

It looks like an RV, through the windows, the purple, red, and blue light are shown inside. In the RV, new shoots of perilla, rosemary, and Leontopodium alpinum sprouted on the shelves. It turns out that this is a plant factory located in the Amway (China) Plant Research and Development Center in Wuxi. Here, plants from around the world can be cultivated, full of science fiction and a sense of the future.

"In a plant factory, we can use high-precision environmental intelligent computers and electronic sensing systems to control environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, light, carbon dioxide concentration, and nutrient solutions to achieve continuous and efficient production of crops." Dr. Li Tingzhao, a researcher at Amway (China) Plant Research and Development Center, said that in the laboratory, plants do not grow in soil, but in water and air. Researchers can precisely control various parameters, as well as the pest-free and sterile conditions in the laboratory, plants can grow fast and with high quality.

There is technology everywhere in the plant factory. Li Tingzhao pointed to the light that provided light and said: "The core of the light is the chip, which can excite a precise spectrum, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency is also high." In addition, various types of sensors are equipped in different places such as the nutrient solution tank and the planting table to help researchers capture changes in nutrients, changes in light, and even changes in active substances in plants. The data returned by the sensors are summarized, analyzed, and modeled on the computer side. Finally, unmanned production management is made possible.

"One of the main purposes of building this plant factory is rapid breeding." If the breeding is done outdoors, and if everything is smooth, it will take at least 10 years to complete. Here, 5-6 generations can be achieved a year, which speeds up the breeding process very much and meets social needs as soon as possible.
