Delphy expands cucumber team

Increasing demand for cucumber growing advice due to modern challenges

Starting October 11, Delphy will be expanding its team of cucumber advisors with Danny Verwoerd. This brings the number of cucumber advisors within Delphy to four. It is possible that a fifth advisor will be added in the not too distant future. With this, Delphy wants to respond to the increasing demand for advice, both in the Netherlands and internationally.

The team now consists of Ewoud van der Ven, Rens Smith and Stefan Hendriks. Ewoud is the Nestor of the team, but in Rens and Stefan, he has experienced colleagues. All have experience in all forms of cucumber cultivation: traditional and high wire cultivation, both exposed and unexposed.

Not only companies in the Netherlands are supported; the support is actually worldwide, expanding everywhere where cucumbers are grown in a high-tech way, such as Canada, New Zealand, and Scandinavia. Because of this, and in cooperation with Delphy internationally, they have a broad view on cucumber cultivation and can often respond quickly to developments.

A recent example is the detection of the spread of the CABY virus in the Netherlands. Research results from all over the world were also used for the development of a hygiene protocol for cucumber (and tomato).

Practical experience in cultivation
Danny has gained experience as cultivation manager at a cucumber company and wants to use his knowledge and experience to bring other companies to a higher level. Together with his colleagues within Delphy, he is further developing his knowledge and expertise.

Team manager greenhouse vegetables Jeroen van Buren: "Delphy aims for continuity. By attracting young advisors in time, the knowledge and experience remain at a high level when older advisors retire. Partly due to the international work, the advisors have extensive experience with remote advice. Based on data and models, crops can be steered increasingly better. With the arrival of Danny, we are taking another step forward!"
