According to information from the General Directorate of Agricultural Development of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, in 2020 Peru had 4,847 hectares dedicated to tomato cultivation and produced a total of 204,126 tons of tomatoes.
Even though the country's production is mainly intended for domestic consumption, part of it is being exported. Last year, the country's tomato exports amounted to 1.19 million dollars.
Peru's production is mainly developed in the valleys of Lima, Arequipa, Loreto, Ancash, and La Libertad. Producers grow different tomato varieties. The most outstanding varieties are the Katya, round, Río grande, Brigade, and Chef.
