DIFC restaurant Boca has partnered with local vegetable producer Pure Harvest Smart for a wide-range of locally-sourced tomatoes.
Boca’s menu will now use up to 13 different tomato varieties, including heirloom, yellow, orange, candied and black loom for the upcoming season. All the produce comes from a high-tech greenhouse farm in Al Ain.
Pure Harvest uses precise climate controls that allow for greater efficiency and less waste in production. The tomatoes still rely on the natural sun of the UAE desert for lighting, and bumblebees that roam the farm for pollination. The produce is packed on the farm and delivered directly to Boca’s kitchens.
Pure Harvest’s production is in line with the country’s National Strategy for Food Security, which aims to promote local production and enable sustainable food production through the use of modern technology.
