The greenhouse of Xue Yongming, a villager in Xiquhe Village, Fancun Town, Taigu County, is full of science and technology. The greenhouse adopts water-fertilizer integrated soilless cultivation technology and realizes automatic watering and fertilization through remote control. With the rise of smart agriculture models in the district, Xue Yongming feels that technology empowers the vegetable industry.
In 2019, Tiansen Group acquired over 11 hectares of arable land and 22 hectares of barren hills and slopes in Xiquhe Village to build a 'Tomato Town'. Located 5.4 kilometers away from Xiquhe Village, this 'Tomato Town' has developed into a well-known tomato production base in China. The town is Asia’s largest single-unit, intelligently controlled glass greenhouse which integrates drip irrigation with water and fertilizer and sun-shading screens.
Sun Sheng, Production Technology Director of the Dushi Tomato Project of Tiansen Group, said: “We use remote data settings to pass data to various sensor systems in the greenhouse. For example, if the light is higher than the set value, the curtains will close to block the light out."
Nowadays, the greenhouse has not only water and fertilizer integration, drip irrigation, pollination through bumblebees, and other technologies, but also established a technical service platform for the entire agricultural industry to provide technical guidance and services to farmers and promote the technology. "We now provide integrated technical support: the first step is to select the varieties that will meet the needs of the market with high-quality varieties. The second is to provide technical services throughout the process of water and fertilizer management. The third is crop protection, including the use of biological agents and the use of physical prevention and control. Compared with the market risk that farmers have experienced in the past, the current planting is less risky." Sun Sheng said.
Today, Xiquhe Village has transferred over 38 hectares of arable land and over 33 hectares of barren hillside land, leading the villagers to develop the greenhouse industry even further. Through the “company + base + farmer households” model, advanced technologies are introduced into the village, and the collective income of the village has been increased.
The 'Tomato Town' continues to build a whole industrial chain integrating technology, research and development, breeding, scientific seedling cultivation, green planting, intensive processing, product sales, and brand promotion. At present, the tomato juice and other products developed and produced by the team are on the market.
