"Cultivation of papayas goes with the sun"

The Netherlands has recently become acquainted with Dutch papaya. A number of growers from the Venlo region cultivate the tropical fruit in their greenhouses.

Grower Roy Steegh already spoke on this topic when all of the tests last year went well and the acreage was able to be expanded. With the help of lighting, the growers can harvest continuously.

However, Roy isn't alone in his endeavours. Isodora Fruits has more enthusiastic growers. Hugo Bakker, Rob Bakker, Erwin, Ad and Ferry Gubbels also ensure that the papaya grows and blossoms. And Roel Surminski takes care of the sales.

Home-grown tropical fruit in winter too
The latter explains that, as with many crops, the cultivation 'goes with the sun'. This means that production is at its highest right now. Strangely enough, however, demand is often higher in winter. "In summer, there is simply more fruit on the market. We make sure that when the summer ends here and people still want tropical fruit, papayas are still available.

And all this from their own soil. It is important for Isodora Fruits to become better known. And the enthusiastic growers are well on their way to achieving this goal.
