6 tons of greenhouse-waste organic fertilizers to be produced monthly in Eskisehir, Turkey

The Eskisehir Bilecik Development Agency announced the evaluation results of the applications made to the 2020 Financial Support Programs. Saricakaya Municipality, which will produce compost by collecting vegetable wastes, was entitled to receive a grant with the project developed for this purpose. Saricakaya Municipality, which is preparing to implement a new environmental project, aims to recycle the vegetable wastes it will collect from 14 neighborhoods in the district into the soil by converting it into compost.

By establishing the Mobile Compost unit, it is aimed to produce  6 tons of organic fertilizer per month by collecting greenhouse vegetable wastes from all neighborhoods in the district. Saricakaya Mayor Huseyin Cam stated that the wastes arising from agriculture activities adversely affect human and environmental health, and added: “There are 1,076 hectares of cultivated land in our district, where agriculture is carried out in the registered greenhouses and open fields. When we examine the cultivated areas, tomato production ranks first with 350 hectares, and 10,500 tons of waste is generated annually from tomato cultivation areas. These wastes are generally randomly stacked near the Sakarya River and left to rot here. This situation turns into a big problem for the people of the district. As can be seen from the figures, it is extremely important to eliminate the negative effects of agricultural wastes on human and environmental health in a controlled manner, to improve waste collection techniques, and to develop new projects in order to create facilities that will enable the recycling of collected wastes. Our project is aimed to ensure that the amount of waste generated in our district is eliminated in the greenhouses at the end of the season.

Thanks to the mobile compost device and compost enzymes we will provide with our project, we aim to distribute the compost fertilizer from the recycled wastes to the farmers of Saricakaya. In addition, we have prepared this project in order to raise awareness and raise awareness of our farmers about the recycling of wastes and more environmentally friendly."
