Horticultural exports from Mexico have registered a growth of 13.3% in volume and 13.5% in value in the first four months of 2021, compared to the same period of the previous year.
Between January and April, the volume of Mexican fruit exports increased 12.9% while their commercial value rose 15.2%. According to data prepared by the Agricultural Markets Consultant Group (GCMA) based on SAT figures, the fruits that registered an increase in their export volume were grapefruit (+ 47.8%), mango (+ 30.3 %), papaya (+ 27.7%), avocado (+ 26.2%), strawberry (+ 16.3%), and banana (+ 12%).
Likewise, there was an increase in the economic value of lemon (+ 59.3%), mango (+ 57.8%), grapefruit (+ 30%), strawberry (+ 24.8%), papaya (+ 23.9%), berries (+ 18%), and avocado (+ 10.2%), mainly. On the contrary, the fruits that registered the greatest decrease in their exported volume from Mexico were walnuts, with a decrease of 45.7%, lemon with -7.6% and berries with -5.8%.
Regarding vegetable exports in the first four months of the year, the volume increased by 13.5%, and the value also increased by 10.2%.
The GCMA indicated that among the products that decreased their export volume, broccoli stands out with a fall of 5.2%; while the vegetables that registered a decrease in their value were green tomatoes with 21.5% and broccoli with 3%.
